Many neighbourhoods across the GTA are moving through a similar development transition in which the smaller, older homes that originally populated and characterized the area are being replaced with larger homes. Almost exclusively made up of aged bungalows and side splits, the southwest Oakville neighbourhood where this natural modern home was built was no exception.
At the core of successful infill residential design is respect, not only for our client’s wishes, but also for the property and neighbourhood. With this in mind, a key goal of this home was to fit in with the area around it. The open-concept floor plan was ideal for a young family, in keeping with the neighbourhood’s core demographic. Everything from natural materials in the home’s exterior to a landscape wall on the front lawn complemented the many trees that helped give the area character. Finally, despite its larger square footage, the home had a quiet confidence that didn’t upset the modesty of the surrounding streets.
