Available Positions

David Small Designs is a mid-size architecture and interior design firm seeking to hire an Intermediate Interior Designer to join in our vibrant and growing residential design team. Reporting to the Design Lead, the Intermediate Interior Designer will generate exciting, forward thinking, project appropriate interiors in alignment with clients’ budget and schedule.

This will be a hybrid position with a combination of work performed remotely and in person at our Oakville, ON office.

Key Duties

  • In collaboration with the Lead Designer, develop conceptual designs for clients
  • Meet with clients to discuss requirements, through each phase of the project
  • Create and review design packages during various stages of the project
  • Determine cost of completion and project requirements in the budgeting phase
  • Source materials and products included in plans
  • Visit job sites as required
  • Inspect design after completion to ensure client goals have been met

Required Experience and Skills

  • Degree or Diploma of Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program
  • 5 years’ experience working in a residential interior design, including site visits and client meetings
  • Experience working with millwork/shop drawings, lighting and ceiling plans, electrical plans, product and material specifications
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, MS Office Suite
  • Experience with Interior Design drawing package coordination and production
  • Familiarity with local Building Codes
  • Excellent communication skills; able to articulate design ideas
  • Self Starter and able to work efficiently in a fast past environment
  • Professional and polite
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation

David Small Designs is searching for a talented Architectural Technologist with exceptional CAD skills to join our team. The ideal candidate has above average skills in CAD, Sketchup and Photoshop. A keen eye for detail will help you to translate the designer’s vision into sophisticated, detailed drawings.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • 5+ years of Canadian work experience completing technical working drawings used in wood frame construction.
  • Completed an Architectural Technology program
  • Excellent knowledge of AutoCAD, Sketchup, and Photoshop
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate creative and aesthetic choices with team members
  • Creativity, combined with attention detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements, client requests and tight deadlines
