Traditional Simplicity

4,000 SQ. FT. | Oakville, ON | Completed 2013

This home is a prime example of traditional detailing mixed with modern simplicity. Typically, brackets and shutters are key elements of a traditional design, but when executed in a more minimalistic manner (clean lines, bold colour scheme) the result is a transitional appeal. Taking inspiration from the design styles of Arts & Crafts and Cape Cod, the home features a large, inviting front porch, a nautical colour scheme and a perfect balance of materials, including natural stone, siding and wood.

A key element of this design is the prominent covered back porch. Often clients are concerned that a covered porch will restrict the natural light. With the porch located on one side of the home, the natural light pours through the abundance of windows on the other side and creates a defined space for comfortable outdoor living.

For the neighbourhood, the result is a home that is warm and welcoming, not overwhelming or ostentatious. For the family, the result is a functional home, full of light and a reflection of the best of the design styles they love.
